How we Celebrate Christmas

Our family celebrates with a Christmas party that has been going on for five generations. On December 23rd every year, relatives from across the nation gather in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The party rotates to the home of one of the relatives still living in Baton Rouge (and there are many). Often a hundred or more will fill the house to overflowing bringing food and beverages. Only the children exchange gifts. Towards the end of the evening we separate into twelve groups to sing “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, where we act out or “parts”. The finale is a group sing-a-long of “Silent Night” and we bid farewell until next year. On Christmas Eve we return to our respective homes for traditional Christmas festivities with immediate family. It’s a great way to stay close and connected to our large clan even if only once a year.
