Shelby travels from Chicago to Edinburgh to hand deliver a letter from her dead father, little imagining the path it would take her on. Losing her balance lands her in a world she couldn't imagine in her wildest dreams, leading her to the last thing she expected. A lovely page turner of a story, set in a country that I consider a second home, which leads the reader content.

CHAPTER ONE

Hamilton, Bermuda
Friday, May 5

Mercy Lawrence wouldn’t have noticed the large man standing by the silver Mercedes, except for the way he was dressed. Unlike the tourists on the sidewalk, he wore a light gray business suit and tie. Sunglasses hid the upper portion of his face, and the grim set of his mouth detracted from his otherwise handsome appearance. He stood beside the car’s open back door, arms crossed as if waiting for someone.
Not wanting to stare, she tore her gaze away. In jeans, T-shirt, and sandals, she blended easily into the vacationers along the boulevard. She’d spent the last five months in this wonderful country, recuperating from a head injury. Most of her memory remained intact after the accident, but dark recesses still refused to reveal their mystery.
But tomorrow, like a good soldier, she would return to Houston and report to her new job at Sabine Oil, the fulfillment of a goal she’d worked towards for the past six years.
The city’s main drag ran four lanes wide with a palm-tree-lined median, the sea on one side, shops and hotels on the other. A soft wind filled the air with the scent of sea kelp and brine, mixed with a light floral fragrance from the purple bougainvilleas hanging on the walls along the walkway. Seagulls swept low over the water, looking for lunch out past the rolling surf.
She shook her hair loose from the confines of its ponytail clip and turned her face to the balmy sunshine—mainlining vitamin D. Her path took her within four feet of the parked car.
The man moved onto the sidewalk and grabbed her arm. “Having fun, are we?” He spoke with a slight Scottish burr, the strange question more an accusation than a greeting.
She tried to jerk her arm away. “Let go of my arm.”
His grip tightened. “I’ll just bet you’ve been living it up.” His voice was harsh, his jaw tight.
No one intervened. Casual observers would think she knew him.
One hand locked on her arm, he shoved her into the backseat, slid in beside her, and slammed the door. His movements were so quick, so smooth, she had no time to struggle, no time to scream or put up a fight.
She swallowed the lump in her throat choking off oxygen. Women disappeared all too often on foreign soil, never seen or heard from again. “Who are you? What do you think you’re doing? Let me out. Now!”
He ignored her protests and leaned forward in the seat. “Airport, Fergus.”
Blood pounded a persistent rhythm in her ears. He couldn’t be police. They had to tell you the charges before making an arrest. Besides, she’d done nothing wrong.
Her heart skipped a beat. She wanted to run, but it was too late for that. Pivoting towards him, she drew back her arm and aimed the heel of her hand for an upward thrust under his nose. The move from a seated position lacked the needed momentum. He blocked the blow, slamming her back against the seat with a forearm of steel across her chest. “You dropped off the map six months ago. To do what, find yourself?”
 “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She squeezed her eyes shut. This couldn’t be happening. “This is kidnapping. My name is Mercy Lawrence and people are expecting me back at my bungalow.” She struggled against the vise-like grip, slapping at his hand.
“Stop it, and cut the crap, Traci, or I’ll slap you back. Taking a wife, a mother, home to the son she abandoned is not kidnapping. Besides, you’re not a kid.”

My Review:
This is a lovely, gripping story about what we Brits call a speech therapist. Maven, a beautiful but unusual name, which is exactly right for our heroine. I've never read a book with this profession as the lead character, but it's brilliant. It has characters that live through the pages and a mystery that drags the reader in and keeps them hooked. A real page turner.

REDEMPTION—A DEVOTION
Romans 3: 22-24
 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 

The title of my newest book is REDEMPTION so it seemed to me a good topic to write about in a devotion. Dictionary.com defines redemption as an act of atoning for a fault or a mistake; deliverance or rescue; deliverance from sin; salvation; atonement for guilt.
The title came about as a result of Jamie, the main character being ashamed of things she’s done in her past as a consultant to the FBI. As a result she feels God can’t love her the way she is. So she seeks redemption by putting herself in dangerous situations to help other people.
But the redemption part of the story doesn’t stop there. Enrique, the tall, dark, and handsome FBI agent seeks redemption as well. From Jamie. Then there’s the bartender Jamie meets on her quest to find a friend’s missing child. He’s trying to overcome a lifetime of criminal acts. More redemption.
And then there’s the father of the kidnapped child—who is the kidnapper! Talk about needing redemption. No wonder this book is named REDEMPTION!
That makes for a good plot in a suspense novel, but it’s important to know that we can’t save ourselves through good acts, through helping others, or even being really good people. There is only one way to receive redemption: meaning salvation; meaning going to heaven to live with God forever!
We are saved through our faith in Jesus—and only through our faith in Jesus.
No amount of good works can earn us a ticket to heaven! It doesn’t matter how “good” we are, how much money we give to good causes (including the church), or how kind we are to others.
 Only our belief in Jesus as the Son of God can save us.
And the reverse is true as well as Jamie discovers in my novel, REDEMPTION. Your past doesn’t matter. God loves you just the way you are. He won’t turn his back on you because of your past, present, or even your future mistakes.
And that is more awesome than I can say, but 2 Corinthians 9:15 says it best: “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

She got out of the car. Her legs buckled, not wanting to hold her up. She glanced to her right. The guy in the blue shirt lay on the pavement, surrounded by police and paramedics. A huge crowd of onlookers stood everywhere. “Is…is he dead?”
“No. What’s your name?”
“Amy.”
“Amy what?”
“Amy Childs.” She couldn’t tear her eyes away from the scene.
“Have you had anything to drink in the last hour?”
“No. I don’t drink.”
“Breathe into this until I say stop.”
She frowned. “I told you, I don’t drink.” But she did as the police officer asked. “Can I go now? I have somewhere I have to be.”
“Amy Childs,” the police officer spoke firmly, pulling her hands behind her back. “I’m arresting you on suspicion of dangerous driving.”
“What? It was only a U-turn…”
“You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defense if you do not mention, when questioned, something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.” Metal cuffs snapped around her wrists and firm hands put her into the back of the police car.
“But it was only a U-turn,” she repeated.
“U-turns are illegal,” the cop said sharply. “And you hit a pedestrian.” The door slammed shut. 
Amy looked at it. It had no handle on the inside. She swallowed hard against the rising nausea as the car started to move. What had she done? Tears burned her eyes.
The journey was short. The officers led her inside the custody suite to the desk. The place stank of sweat and sick. She gave her name and address and handed over all her belongings. The officer took her down to a cell and removed the cuffs. She had to take off her shoes and leave them in the corridor. The door slammed shut, leaving her alone.

Both with a British accent of course ;-). If you've read any of my books you'll have met Dane before. He plays a fairly big role in some of them, and especially in Tuesday's Child, which you might say is the prequel to this book, but you don't need to read it first. Turned also contains a few recurring characters--Nate obviously as he's Dane's partner, Liam also pops in once or twice and of course Dane's kids, Jodie and Vicky play a huge role.

and on a personal note...

I finally managed to update the website :) Being hopelessly tech impaired, when my ISP upgraded their CCGI servers, where I host all my photos, I found myself unable to upload the 18 or so book covers I needed to add. (How many???)

Anyway, emails and tweets and help questions went back and forth for several weeks. Then yesterday, they rang and talked me through it. :)
